About me
Leah Wainman has spent over a decade working at the intersection of data and equity in public health. She has overseen data-sharing agreements federally recognized Tribal Nations in Washington State, building governance structures that respect Tribal data sovereignty rather than imposing one-size-fits-all rules. She's developed health equity frameworks that shape how population data is collected, analyzed, and used to guide policy and funding decisions statewide. Earlier in her career, she led community health assessments that turned local data into concrete action plans, and built data-sharing partnerships between public health, behavioral health, and jail systems to better serve vulnerable populations. Across these projects, the throughline has been the same question this workshop asks: who controls the data, and who benefits from it? Leah holds an MPH from the University of Washington and a BS in Public Health from UNC Greensboro.
